Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a convincing penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
